If you're comfortable with Registry work, navigate to
HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\I DE
When you expand that key, you should see your optical drive
listed in the indented field. Click the drive and then proceed to
the Device Parameters sub-key. You should find a key called
"Writing Device" - check that the key value is set to 1.
The Device Parameters is subbed under the first key after the
ID string of the device, like 5&1b4cde65g....
