It's simple string searching. enter com and ALL com mail would be blocked. But so would david@COMand.net. So one would enter .com. But some email has names like david.COMdy@somewhere.net.

So if you enter just the domain name all mail that contains that string, including that domain, will be blocked. So for safety sake try to be as specific as possible.

If you are following the instructions from help literally realise you need to edit the email it's adding automatically for you to what you want.
