Default Re: Windows cannot find hardware device after spyware infection

Is there anything else connected to the SCSI controller? Usually if
the OS can not find a drive (Tape) it's because it can't see the
controller. Remember Win NT et. al. do not use the bios so just
because the machine can see the controller it does not mean the OS
can.

|I was recently infected with spyware (yes I did something stupid) and
| after removing it with MS AntiSpyware software none of my CD/DVD
drives
| or tape drive worked. Below is the list of infections (copied out
of
| the antispyware software):

| Krepper Trojan Downloader (removed)
| CoolWebSearch.SearchX Spyware (removed)
| Trojan.Delf.EF Trojan (removed)
| PWS-Banker Password Stealer (removed)
| BackDoor.Galapop.A Backdoor (removed)
| CoolWebSearch Browser Modifier (removed)
| TargetSaver Trojan Downloader (removed)
| Trojan.PayTime Trojan (removed)
| SpySheriff Potentially Unwanted Software (removed)
| Startup.NameShifter.JV Trojan (removed)
|
| I was able to restore my CD/DVD drives using this article:
|
| This did not help the tape drive problem though (it is a DLT4000
hooked
| up via SCSI). I'm getting an exclamation point and this error
message
| in device manager:
|
| "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but

|
| Any suggestions besides doing an OS reinstall?
