Need Solution To Use 2nd Hard Drive
OK Guys, here's the deal:
My hard drive apparently is so full of trojans, worms, and probably
viruses, that it's as slow as snail snot, but there's a lot of
information on it I'm not willing to delete if I reformat, and saving
these files to disc will also not work cuz the nasty critters will be
saved along with them. I'm thinking that I could just get a new second
hard drive and keep the old one for my saved files, but I've been told
that if I do this the viruses, trojans, worms, etc will just migrate
over to the new one. Is this true? Is it possible to partition the
old hard drive so I can use the blank space, installing my XP CD again
and using the new section of the hard drive without the original
section causing problems? How do I do this (details, please)?
Alternatively, under what, IF ANY, circumstances could I utilize a new
external USB hard drive, pull out the old hard drive and put it in a
second external case and switch them at will (I realze this means no
internal hard drive)? Will the computer allow the switch while it's
turned on? Can they both be designated as 'C' drives in this
circumstance? Or, as another possibility, since the BIOS are set to
look for both 'C' and 'A' drives upon reboot, couldn't I just change
the drive letters so that the new drive would be 'C' and the old drive
would be 'A', then shut down the computer to switch from one to the
other and let the BIOS find the drive when rebooting?
Or is there a simpler way to solve this problem? This is just about the
extent of my technical expertise, so please have mercy.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
