Sluggish Start Up; cfmon.exe
I have been using Windows XP for about 18 months, and gradually the Start Up
takes longer and longer until it now takes over two minutes from password
entry to being able to use my space. I am sure I don't need to be loading
everything that is getting loaded. How can I sensibly reduce these items so
I am only starting what I need, and can call up other options as I need
them?
Also, XP has developed an annoying fault, If I delete pictures from the
picture editor - which I am doing all the time as I am a keen digital camera
user - XP hangs, and I have to log off and log on again - another 2 minutes
(see above)! It is usually a programme called "cfmon.exe" which is causing
the problem -to then causes other programmes to 'hang'. What is it and how
do I cure it? I have fought shy of resetting the PC to an earlier date
because I am not sure when the problem emerged, and I have downloaded a few
programmes recently, including Windows updates.
