Default PC Slow to connect to Network location

I have four computers all connected with a simple network. Each computer is
running XP-Home, SP2.

I connect to computer A from the three other computers. Something strange
is happening. All three other computers will connect to computer A fine,
but two of the computers are very slow when displaying the contents of a
shared folder on computer A. The shared folder has over 1,000 files in it,
so I know that is a lot of files to display. However, one of my three will
display the contents almost instantly. The other two computers (which are
both newer and one of them quite a bit faster) take probably 8-10 seconds to
display the contents.

As best as I can tell, all network settings on all computers are the same.
Of course, they are different machines with different drivers, etc., but I
cannot figure out why 1 out of 3 would be so much faster.

Is there anything I can check? I would appreciate any thoughts anyone has.

Thanks.
