Try Perfect Disk or Diskeeper to prefetch files opened most often; XP itself
should do this anyway, but PD or DK10.00 would do this better - they say.
Might be also that if you open a word or Excel file rather than the programs
themselves, Office requests a virus scan for the file to be opened - check
you Word etc Security settings.
