Well...I'm no expert on metadata but I know there's...
EXIF, IPTC, and many programs that have cataloging
features use a proprietary database separate from the
actual images. MS Digital Image 2006 Library has
Pictures.pd3...I don't know about PhotoShop.

Try opening one of your image files in IrfanView and
go to...Image / Information. Depending on the particular
JPEG file you may find an EXIF button and/or an IPTC
button.
