Just as an experiment...try creating a
PhotoStory with only one or two images.
If this works correctly, it's reasonably
certain the original problem is a resource
issue.
Closing all programs and freeing up
hard drive space was a good idea.
The more the better, I like to keep my
hard drive at least 50% free.
Try doing some maintenance and
see if it helps:
Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and
Defrag on a regular schedule is a good idea.

(check the two boxes..."Automatically fix file
