Why do they do that with software?

It is not just cameras, some GPS units try to do the same.

It doesn't seem professional making proprietary software try to take
over a privately owned computer (and such should always be accompanied
with good and easy support if required). maybe we should wait for
someone in texas to tell the authorities? Remember Sony and rootkit?
