Default out of sync audio, and general questions...

Heya.
I'm trying to import video from my MiniDV camcorder using this cable:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...ct_Id=1 44533

I've tried it in Ulead Videostudio 9 and Mediastudio 8 but both have
suffered issues with sound, or not captured at all.

At first, it worked fine. Sound was in sync and no loss of frames or
anything.
However, I decided to fiddle with the capture settings to get better
quality videos, etc... and now I have an issue where the sound either:
is ahead/behind, slower than the video (video runs super fast)
And sometimes, I get an error about the program not being able to creat
a MPEG graph or contact the MPEG pin (or something similar to this...)

Basically, what I was trying to achieve was the best quality file I
could (Preferably compressed) so I can write it onto DVD and it'll look
alright on a widescreen TV as well as having half-decent sound quality
(which is preferably in sync!!)
Now, I know when you write to DVD sound has to be separate, but it
still has to be in sync to start with! I wouldn't want sounds playing
from event that don't even happen on the DVD.

Anyway... What are the best settings I can use for my situation?/Why is
audio going out of sync?

For those interested in how the cable works...
You connect the S-Video cable to the input, which then goes into USB,
and the sound channels run off a separate wire, which plugs into the
microphone socket of your PC.
And I'm also running a 2.53Ghz Pentium 4 PC w/ 1gb ram.
