Hi,
Click start, select run and type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and
click Ok.
The device manager should open. This will have a list of devices installed
in your computer. Check if you have anything like "Multimedia audio
controller" is listed with a (!) mark. See if you have any devices listed as
unknown or with a (!) mark.
Contact your PC manufacturer and get the latest audio drivers for XP and
install them. This should fix the problem.
