I think the first thing you need to do is to ensure that there is no
virus/spyware/trojan on your machine. These items are very often
known to cause exactly the type of behaviors that you have described.

If the problems persist after you have cleaned up and double-checked
the machine for these items then we can proceed with further steps,
such as a Repair Install of your Windows XP.
