I use MPC often, and it mostly behaves very well. Never noticed any
problems with broken video. I hope you are not expecting sound to be
normal while watching a speeded-up video.

Can't coment on Irfanview's crash. Zoomplayer has an option (amongst
its thousands) where you tell it to PLAY the video while fast
forwarding.

As fasr as I recall, it is not possible to adjust speed of WMVs with
MPC or IV. Can't recall about Zoomplayer. If you feel that you want to
pursue this course of action, you may want to try out VLC Player
(www.videolan.org) as well. Each of these players works differently, so
perhaps one will be more suitable for your purposes.
