Hi again,

been testing the whole shebang back and forth;
plugged the HDD to a HP laptop. Worked fine, and device manager on that
computer showed exactly the same USB controllers: 1x Enhanced USB 2 and 3x
"regular" USB controllers. Had the same Intel 82801-chipset.

So, it seems you are, unfortunately, quite right in saying that this is a
hardware issue. And what's even more unfortunate is that the porblem is
widespread; I've been reading different newsgroups for the past couple of
days and the same "non hi speed" issue bothers different type of devices
plugged into the computer.

If anyone has ideas or further knowledge on the issue, please reply!
