Today I got a prompt to download the fix for KB896424. I have
automatic updates set to notify me but not download or install. I
checked all the updates, clicked on the download button and the
window disappeared. I got no error message whatsoever. I waited but
nothing was installed.

Later today I saw that windows won't download on its own so I went
and downloaded the fix and installed it on my own. Why is this
happening?
