and download most updates for WinME. Many recent Critical Security Updates
are only offering to Win9x users via Windows Update.

I'd encourage you to use Windows Update to install all patches and updates.
The relatively minor problem you ran into before...

....(assuming the update was 837009) is a known bug in the way Windows
Updates has been offering Outlook Express updates to (mainly) Win9x users.
It's easily fixed if you run into it again, Danny.

It's not a perfect world and it's /not/ unknown for Windows Update to offer
/any/ user an update that's already been installed, hence these heavily
trafficked pages:

I have already installed 828026 and now Windows Update says it is still

Also, you *may* still be able to order the Windows Security Update CD via
the MS Order Desk. The CD contains all updates released through 31 Oct-03
(including IE6 SP1). Having it on hand can be helpful if you find yourself
having to reinstall Win9x.
