Most of us figured out a looooong time ago not to install hardware drivers
from Windows Update.

I would suggest you advise your clients, customers, friends, colleagues, and
whoever else the same idea: If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it. That is to
say, hardware updates only be installed IF something is NOT working, and an
engineer from that hardware vendor has recommended a specific update.
