Patti. I have just followed this thread and I wonder if you could help me
with a similar problem?
I am working on a friends computer which arrived before Christmas and will
have to returned shortly! Although I have it functioning 99% correct, I am
unable to install SP2 [WinXP by the way] as the problem is with Cryptographic
Services - I just cannot get it started. I have tried the normal way, tried
in MS-DOS, tried running the "fixdb" batch file, tried re-registering the
..dll files but all to no avail. The SP2 install error message is "Service
Pack2 Setup Error. Setup could not verify the integrity of the file
Update.inf. Make sure the Crypt Svc's is running on this computer".
In MS-DOS, the error message is "The service is starting, the service could
not be started, a system error has occurred, system error 127 has occurred,
the specified procedure could not be found".
When trying to start the service (start\run\services.msc\start) the error
message is "Error 127 The specified service could not be found".
I have read a lot about this on various forums, and tried most suggestions
but no luck yet. Your approach to Harold's problem makes me think you may be
able to help me also ;-)
