If you're willing to purchase AV, I'd recommend eTrust 7.0. For the
freeware AV's, I'd choose AVG or Avast. For firewall, I'd just get
the Zone Alarm Free version which provides adequate protection
but needs a little training to learn what to allow & block. If you choose
Zone Alarm be sure during setup to choose the free version or you'll
end up with a trial version and a 30-day nag to pay the full price.
