Default Rundll error loading cmicnfg.cpl

Back in November I installed the C-Media update and found that my sound was
then gone. As I was going to WINXP Pro Service Pack 2 I didn't even bother
to follow up. After getting SP2 installed the sound was again working fine
and I remembered to hide that particular update. Today a new update
appeared and I again installed this knowing that the earlier update was
still hidden, so I figured it was a newer version perhaps correcting the
previous problem I had experienced. Well, the same happened, sound was now
gone again. So, I uninstalled the C-Media WDM Audio Driver software. After
restarting I then had a Rundll dialog box stating - Error loading
cmicnfg.cpl. The specified module could not be found. I installed the
original driver from my motherboard (ASUS) CD and the sound works fine but,
I do not know how to prevent the error message from appearing each time I
start my system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
