I just had the exact same problem this weekend installing a 300gb drive,
"create partition" grayed out. I used the cd that came with the drive and
partitioned and formatted it NTFS. Worked like a champ. Don't know why
that happened as I've installed 2 120gb drives and a 160gb in the same
computer using Disk Management.
