Go to the store (or order online) and buy an inexpensive PCI sound card.
You can get a basic sound card for under $30 usd. I just bought two
C-Media ones from Geeks.com for $14.95 ea. and there are even cheaper
ones available.

Now go to Device Manager and uninstall your current sound card by
right-clicking on its entry and choosing "Uninstall". Shut down the
computer. If your current C-Media card is a PCI card, with the computer
unplugged open the case and remove the card. Put in the new card you
just bought and restart the computer. Install per the instructions that
will have come with the new card.

If your current C-Media is not a separate PCI card but is onboard, then
after you've uninstalled it from Device Manager reboot the computer
instead of shutting down and immediately go into the BIOS. Disable the
onboard sound. Save your settings, shut down the computer, and install
the new sound card.
