Hmm, I didn't look, but is this an LCD monitor? If so, LCD monitors have a
"native" resolution at which they were designed to function and where they
work best. I found http://snipurl.com/kvti where the "max" resolution is
displayed. It is a disservice that they don't mention the *native*
resolution for their monitor.

Dell has their own support forums at
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/. For Dell-specific questions,
visiting there might result in a more focused and experienced community
regarding your Dell-specific questions. I don't own any Dell stuff (and
never will) so I cannot attest to the professionalism and expertise of the
community that participates in the Dell forums. From a quick search, looks
like there are other troubles with this monitor (http://snipurl.com/kvtk, of
which a couple address seeing black bars due to the ratio of the monitor).
