Default Re: Broken? DVD/CD drive not being recognised?

The startup sequence detects the IDE drive secondary master as the _NEC etc
drive.
The bios shows the drive working and allows settings to be changed as per
usual.

The Jumpers have not been touched, The cd drive is in a computer that is
rarely opened, the jumpers have not been moved.

Ive herd rumors of a microsoft critical update causing DVD DRIVES to be
unrecognised by windows? This fits the description perfect, could this be the
case?
If so what could i do

and the ide ribbon hasnt been touched. These dont just decide to stop
working do they?
Thanks for ur post
Happy new year too =)
