I have gotten this message since I downloaded the Beta version of the pop up
blocker from Microsoft. I can't view anything that has java. The funny thing is that I downloaded Fire fox and I can view everything! Is there a way to reinstall IE6? I have checked all my settings and have tried some of the suggestions posted. But I still can't view anything in IE6. I installed the latest Java from Sun also. |

Windows version? What pop-up blocker from Microsoft?
Assuming your accessing the pages in Internet zone (Tools > Internet Options > Security) with the default settings, (Courtesey of MVP Mike Burgess) several of these are known to cause the problem: 1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]: Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off 2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content - "Allow All Scripts To Execute". Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS. 3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site. 4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site. 5) Cookie blocking software blocking "required" Cookies. 6) Pop-up blockers stripping header\url info. 7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter 8) Make sure the following Registry entry is not corrupt: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0 "-- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), AH-VSOP Peter Conti wrote: > I have gotten this message since I downloaded the Beta version of the pop > up blocker from Microsoft. Sorry for not being more complete. Windows XP home ed. Microsoft
Antispyware is what I downloaded. It was a beta version. I didn't like it so I removed it. Don't have Zone Alarm Pro. Symantic I have it to allow all scripts. Don't understand the acronym NIS? Host file ? I don't know what that is. Sorry not an expert... ![]() POP up blocker is off. The registry entry doesn't have this in the line "="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0 " this is missing. If you tell me howto add it I can try? I never mess with the registry but if you explain how to add this line I will give it a shot. Normally, if I had ME or even 98 I would just reinstall IE. I remember having this problem once before in the past, but XP for me is very frustrating . thanks for the quick reply. Pete "PA Bear" wrote: > Windows version? It can, however, block some JavaScript, which is something entirely different from Java. Do you have an idea which is the problem? If it is really a scripting problem, 1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...entid=28001169 or http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ist/webdev.asp Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools | Internet Options and click Delete Files. 2a. Thanks Rob and Frank for your suggestions, I tried what your suggested to the
best of my abilities and had the same results.(your browser doesn't support java) Finally, out of shear frustration I uninstalled Service Pack 2 and now IE is working the way it should (all the java loads). Something must have gotten messed up, but what? Its the last time I load a beta version of anything! I know enough to get myself in trouble, if I try hard enough, and by no stretch of the imagination am I in the same catergories of knowledge that you guys have. Thanks for the input and if I get the courage I may install SP2 at a later day! ![]() Pete "PA Bear" wrote: > Windows version? 1. Leave SP2 uninstalled.
2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum. Check for Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm http://defendingyourmachine.blogspot.com/ When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.** 3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill of health.
