Using IE 6:
On this page, when I click on login, I can see the password box quickly display and then disappear, and then an 401 Authorization Required page appears. http://www.peocalifornia.org/ In the security settings, "Prompt for username and password" is checked. I don't have this problem on other sites that require username/password. I tried on another machine and IE 6 did the same, but was able to log in using Opera and Netscape. Thanks for any suggestions. -rich |

Hi,
Are you on a network at work, school, etc? The firewall may be blocking the authentication request. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "rich" <rsjones20[at]yahoo.net> wrote in message news:iu2rn1hukkfocku3r7414h335be1ltqeif@4ax.com... > Using IE 6: > > On this page, when I click on login, I can see the password box quickly > display and then disappear, and then an 401 Authorization Required page > appears. > > http://www.peocalifornia.org/ > > In the security settings, "Prompt for username and password" is checked. > > I don't have this problem on other sites that require username/password. > > I tried on another machine and IE 6 did the same, but was able to log in > using Opera and Netscape. > > Thanks for any suggestions. > > -rich |

No, homes systems, - one system has a firewall (mine) and IE is
permitted outbound on any port/address. The other system has no firewall. thanks, -rich "Don Varnau" <don_04[at]varnau[dot]org> wrote: >Hi, >Are you on a network at work, school, etc? Hi rich,
[Guesses] Disable, as a test, third-party security, privacy, ad-blocking programs. One of them may be causing this. Running Ad-aware Pro? The "Block pop-ups" feature sometimes allows a window to open momentarily before closing it. Turn on the windows Firewall (Control Panel> Windows Firewall) and disable (as a test) your third-party firewall. Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone, try resetting to Default. Search the Cookies folder and delete any cookies from that site. If using XP, Control Panel> User Accounts> {username}> Manage network passwords. Remove old or unused passwords or remove all saved passwords. (Freeware) Protected Storage PassView from NirSoft: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/pspv.html Remove any stored passwords for that site.
