I am running IE 6 XP pro sp2. IE is freezing some times to the point where I
have to manually shut the computer down. Other times it sends an error message then directs me to the crash site before closing. I have checked all of the suggestions, updated, scanned for ad and spyware, uninstalled the Ebay toolbar thinking that was it and even did a system restore. Nothing is working. Now what? |

Hi,
When you get an error message, click on Details. Which DLLs are mentioned? Also, from IE> Tools> Manage add-ons, disable any non-Microsoft add-ons to see if one of them is the culprit. A very thorough search for malware is in order. You will want to run Ad-aware, Spybot and MS Anti-Spyware (Beta.) All programs should be updated before use. See these sites for help: Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm The Parasite Fight http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.html What you can do about spyware and other unwanted software: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...ywarewhat.mspx You may have to register and post a HijackThis log to one of these forums for additional help. Look for the proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow proper procedure. * HijackThis Quick Start http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/#Top * HijackThis Tutorial and Download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=42 http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 http://castlecops.com/forums.html http://tomcoyote.com/forums/ http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ http://www.spywarewarrior.com/index.php http://forums.maddoktor2.com/index.php http://forums.net-integration.net/ Or... A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable (for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, security, toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at any program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reinstall, or not reinstall, a program. This (lengthy) troubleshooting process may help: 276393 - Understanding and Troubleshooting Unrecoverable Errors (Faults) in Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=276393 A reinstall won't help if malware is installed, but: 318378 - How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "abrakadebra" <abrakadebra[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:913B40FA-0DD8-471B-B58C-9A307E3AB34D@microsoft.com... > I am running IE 6 XP pro sp2.
