My apologies if this issue has already been addressed. After searching and
reading scores of entries I just can't take it anymore so I'm asking for your help. Is it possible for me to save my customized settings in IE? I know that sounds very vague but here's what I'm after. In order to make my browsing experience more efficient I always change the navigation buttons to 'small' and 'no text'. In addition, I also move my address bar to a different location and my place by navigation buttons on top of the file menu. When I'm looking at IE all I see is the word File and then my navi buttons and then my address bar. Underneath all of this I make good use of the links tool bar feature. I place my most common web sites and a few .exe files to launch frequently used apps with ease. Eventually, I end up with 20 or so links running underneath of the file menu, navi buttons and address bar. What I want to do is to save these specific settings. Is there a way for me to export the custom settings? I put a lot of effort into my settings and if my browser gets hi-jacked or close an IE pop-up with no address bar, links toolbar etc., my IE settings inherit those of the pop-up. I'm careful to not do this but sometimes it happens. I'd like to be able re-import the many settings I have worked on rather than starting from scratch all of the time. Is this possible to do? What steps can be taken? I'm well versed in IE but have yet to find out if my needs can be meet in this fashion. So is there a way to save these settings once and for all. Can I export these settings and toss them onto every machine I use IE on? It would be so helpful if this is possible. I hope you understand what I'm looking for but if you have any questions please let me know. I sincerely appreciate the effort and suggestions anyone may have. I've struggled with this for quite some time now. Thanks Everyone! -Shawn |

Hi,
This registry key contains your toolbar configuration: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser] You should be able to export that key to backup your settings- just right-click> merge to put it back into the registry. Could you use that REG file to configure the IE toolbar on other machines? Probably- there's not a GUID involved so you wouldn't have to edit the REG file to match an existing GUID ( http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/G/GUID.html ) This registry hack seems low-risk, but running a REG file (especially on another machine) is always potentially hazardous. I would backup the registry and all important data. 322756- How to back up, edit, and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;322756 Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Shawn McGowen" <ShawnMcGowen[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5B94A5CB-623E-4600-9DC7-BB6B58515DC5@microsoft.com... > My apologies if this issue has already been addressed.
