Recently upgraded to XP Pro with sp2. Now IE hangs on opening web pages, even
if pages were opened OK on last action. Either action will hang up or nothing at all happens. Also, in one case, when opening site where a site search was done, re-opening site retained information from previous search. Happens on all sites, including this one. Previous system W98 and have other XP versions, both of which worked/work fine. Have done spyware and virus scans. As they were clean, this does not appear to be the problem. Also turned off firewall, turned off pop-up blocker and and lowered security setting. This does not help either. This is ridiculous! Need resolution ASAP in simple English, please. -- pm |

If I close IE and return to home page, can access web sites again. Or if I
leave the problem site and return to home page or go to another site. Also, noticed same problem with an online group chat...frequently "sending" chat would hang and I would have to leave site and return. Seems to me now this is same problem throughout. Don't want to have to clean cookies all the time just to navigate web. Have not experienced this problem at all before upgrade. Did not want to move from W98 to XP anyway just because of these types of problems, but accounting program upgrade forced the issue. -- pm "Vanguard" wrote: > "pm" <pm@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:E17E3A4B-464B-4D40-A6D5-408C78A6DFEA@microsoft.com... > > Recently upgraded to XP Pro with sp2. Upgrade to XP Pro include complete virus cleaning. I also ran EZ AV, Pest
Patrol and AdAware. As I said, found no spyware or malware. Happens on all sites, including this one. -- pm "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE" wrote: > "pm" <pm@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:E17E3A4B-464B-4D40-A6D5-408C78A6DFEA@microsoft.com > > Recently upgraded to XP Pro with sp2. As I said...it happens on ALL sites. It it usually after I have been on a
site and opened several pages. Occasionally it is using the "back" key" but not always. For example, I just tried to view the first web link you posted and got "Page Not Available", but sometimes the page will only display the banner and nothing else, and I will click on "go" or "search" and nothing happens. In my chat room, which I have been visiting for 4 years with no problems using W98, either posting a few words will suddenly take longer or I will be frozen and have to leave the website completely. A couple of times I stopped to clean out Internet cookies and files, but don't want to have to do that constantly. I also reregistered the urlmon.dll, as suggested in one article from MS. And neither solved the problem. FYI...I am talking with my computer tech who installed XP Pro who feels it is not the browser, so he is going to look at the system. He has successfully installed a number of systems for me and is very proficient and far more knowledgeable than I am, but the problem is so similar to what others say they are experiencing, I continue to believe it is the browser. I'm beginning to feel like the woman who goes into the gas station and tells the mechanic there's something wrong with the car because it's making a funny noise, and the mechanic says, "Yeah, right, lady." Then 3 days later the car breaks down. -- pm "mac" wrote: > > "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE" <franksaunders@mvps.org> wrote in message > news:%23sjMLNu7FHA.3984@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > > How many of those sites did you visit and read? > > Frank, FYI: > http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm > Does not resolve now, looks like Sandi changed it to: > http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.html > > -- > Regards Steve. > MS-MVP.
