(Win2K) For security reasons, I have ActiveX disabled in IE.
Mostly, this is no big loss .... the major problem for me is not a loss of functionality at various websites but the persistent pop-up window from IE informing me that Active-X is turned off (yeah, I know) and some site content may not be available (yeah, I know). Unfortunately, it is not one of those windows with a "do not show this again" checkbox. I can't find any way to turn this off and it gets *really* annoying ... if I'd wanted to know each time, I could have set Active-X to "prompt" instead of "disable". Am I missing something? Is there a way to stop this? Or am I stuck with the choice of either enabling ActiveX against my wishes or putting up with a continual nag? |

Add those sites to the trusted zone, then the activex can run and you see no
messages without dropping your security on sites you don't know. Maybe I wasn't clear. It's not the ActiveX sites that I want to see.
It's the darned warning window that I don't want to see. (In fact, I *can* see those sites ... disabling ActiveX seems to make little practical difference in most cases. It's just that annoying warning window *every* time and I have to close it before the page will load - minus the ASctiveX). I do have ActiveX enabled for trusted sites but disabled for general internet sites (and of course for restricted sites). The problem is that the majority of sites (90%?) use some form of ActiveX so the warning window is always popping up. The options I seem to have are: 1. Enable ActiveX for all general internet sites as well as trusted sites... defeats the object of having the disable option in the first place. 2. Add every site where I get the warning window to trusted sites ... unmanageable, insecure and defeats the object of just about everything. 3. Find a way to turn off the persistent warning (hence the question here). 4. Put up with the persistent warning window and hope that MS eventually realise that the lack of a "do not show this window again" is a bug. But it's really, really annoying (and IE is already at version 6 (7?) without a bugfix) 5. Find an alternative browser that will give me this same security without making me pay the penalty. Since there doesn't seem to be any other soulution I'm currently looking into this. A lot of people use FireFox as an alternative, no harm in trying that, but
yes I was aware of the problem and yes that was the most secure solution. It has not hurt me any to have Activex enabled in the internet zone provided that it's only SIGNED ActiveX. Do not allow unsigned to download or allow scripting of ActiveX not marked as safe. There is a utility that will add trusted and restricted zone items to your IE tools menu which makes the job easier if you are interested. It says IE 5 but has worked with everything I've tried it on so far. You can find that here. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...s/pwrtwks.mspx "Sid Knee" <mevagissy@gmail.com> wrote in message news:43872b9e$0$27540$c3e8da3@news.astraweb.com... > Maybe I wasn't clear.
