Default Cannot find server - the page cannot be displayed.

When I tried to go to www.alexa.com, I received this error. I also recieve
this error when I try to click on some of the ESPNews Headlines (ie
http://x.go.com/cgi/x.pl?goto=http:/...12718&srvc=sz).

I am running IE 6 on XP.

Why is it that I can't view these sites? I have disabled my Norton and even
compared security settings with my friends that can access these sites.

Thanks for your help, Chris

Hi,
First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50-60 MB (Settings.)

From Start> Run type or copy and paste
ipconfig /flushdns
Hit Enter or OK
Restart

See if these sites are being blocked by a HOSTS file. To check the HOSTS
file in Windows XP...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is not hiding file
extensions for known file types (Folder Options> View) then check for a
HOSTS file at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with
notepad. If there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound
sign (#) in front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename
the HOSTS file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.
More on the HOSTS file at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Disable third-party ad-blocker type programs. One of them may be causing
this.

Hope this helps,
