Default Internet Explorer makes unnecessary requests while downloading fil

When investigating a pdf file download problem that seemed related only to
the Internet Explorer browser, I noticed that Internet Explorer issued 2
requests (http GET requests) to download the file.

I don't understand why this must be done. It increases needlessly network
traffic. I wonder if this is a known bug, related to my version of Internet
Explorer or considered as a normal behaviour.

If your browser is 6.0.2600 in WinXP you are missing a LOT of updates.
