I can't seem to access the Microsoft Update page at:
http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...6/default.aspx This is the address that shows up in the address bar when I try to go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/ and the page remains blank with the yellow triangle at the lower left corner of my window that says that I have an error on the page as follows: Line: 52 Char: 1 Error: Object expected Code: 0 URL: http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...6/default.aspx Also, if I go to Office Update the page shows up but the progress bar on the page stays at 30% and hasn't gone any further than that. On almost any web page I visit I receive some kind of error like the one I listed for the Microsoft Update page and many times it is an Object expected error and other times it seems to be an Expected '(' error. I also cannot access some links on pages such as the links for software trials on this page: http://www.surething.com/ST/Downloads.asp When I hover over any of the Trial software links I see javascript opupWindow(with other information following the "(" and nothing happens. I don't know if all of these are connected, but I seem to have a lot of problems with javascript and am not sure what to do. Thank you for any help. |

Hi DSS,
Looks like you do not have ActiveX enabled for the Internet Zone. Tools>Internet Options - Security tab Alternatively add http://*.microsoft.com to your Trusted Zone (making sure that that zone has a low security level allowing ActiveX) "DSS" <ddsieb*remove*@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:es7%23Kwg9FHA.2176@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > I can't seem to access the Microsoft Update page at: > http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...6/default.aspx > > This is the address that shows up in the address bar when I try to go to > http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/ and the page remains blank with > the yellow triangle at the lower left corner of my window that says that I > have an error on the page as follows: > Line: 52 > Char: 1 > Error: Object expected > Code: 0 > URL: http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...6/default.aspx > > Also, if I go to Office Update the page shows up but the progress bar on the > page stays at 30% and hasn't gone any further than that. > > On almost any web page I visit I receive some kind of error like the one I > listed for the Microsoft Update page and many times it is an Object expected > error and other times it seems to be an Expected '(' error. Thanks for the suggestions. I added the website to my Trusted Zone with a
low security level allowing ActiveX, but that did not make any difference. The page remains blank. I looked at my settings for ActiveX for the Internet Zone also, but there are many different options to enable, disable, or prompt for. I set my Internet Zone at the default Medium setting also and that did not make a difference. Any other ideas? Hi DSS,
The only other thing I can think of is a damaged windows update component. Try checking the status of {9F1C11AA-197B-4942-BA54-47A8489BB47F} in your "Downloaded Programs Files" folder (systemroot:\Downloaded Program Files). You should have an entry in this folder for this control (this control is used to control your downloads from the update site).Right click for the Repair/Status menu. I don't know what else, Delete temp files, cookies? Other software conflicts - BHO's , Download Manager "DSS" <ddsieb*remove*@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23xGOm9o9FHA.600@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > Thanks for the suggestions. I did not find {9F1C11AA-197B-4942-BA54-47A8489BB47F} in my Downloaded
Program Files. I looked in the Downloaded Program Files folder in my Windows folder, so hopefully I looked in the right place. I do have two Java Runtime Environment 1.4.1 programs listed in the Downloaded Program Files folder though. I had uninstalled some more recent versions of Java Runtime Environment using Add/Remove Programs since I was having problems with what seems to be Javascript errors, but when I try to remove 1.4.1 in Add/Remove I receive a window saying that an installation support file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified. I was hoping to remove Java and do a fresh install of the latest version, but I cannot get 1.4.1 uninstalled and there are two instances of it in Downloaded Program Files. This might not have a thing to do with the Windows Update window not working, but I thought I would mention in case there might be a connection. I have cleaned out my temp files and deleted cookies, etc., prior to asking for help and that didn't make a difference. Thank you for your suggestions.
