Hello,
I have Windows XP SP2 with IE 6, I had installed all windows updates until today. When I open a CHM file in any of my local disk directories "The page cannot be displayed" error is shown. The contents, index and search of the help file works correctly but when I try to access certain topic I got that error. The address of the displayed homepage is res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\Help\whatsne w.chm::/whatsnew_hss.htm Another type of address is res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/syntax.htm#ms-help://borland.bds3/bds3start/html/intro.htm This happens with all help files installed on my computer, even windows and MSDN help files. I have read, that a security update affected the use of MS Help because of a vulnerability, but haven't found any solution yet. I didn't have this problem before, the last time I remember using a help file was at the beginning of this year. Did anybody have a similar problem? How can it be solved? Thank you in advance for your help. |

Here's a link to a thread in the WU NG from October which should help http://www.microsoft.com/communities...4e6&sloc=en-us > > I didn't have this problem before, the last time I remember using a help > file was at the beginning of this year. > > Did anybody have a similar problem? It may be as easy as re-registering hhctrl.ocx Unfortunately all other threads related to this have been aged out of the web interface to newsgroups (e.g. probably nobody voted for them as helpful). Therefore, if you need more help try a search with Google Groups for replies which mention that module and if necessary sort them by date. Hmm... in fact the last discussion that I was involved with which had this solution was in the Windows Update newsgroup and it was marked http://www.microsoft.com/communities...335&sloc=en-us Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- > Hello, > > I have Windows XP SP2 with IE 6, I had installed all windows updates until > today. > > When I open a CHM file in any of my local disk directories "The page cannot > be displayed" error is shown.
