When I click on a link to download a file... instead of getting the Save/Run
download dialog box, I instead get a small windows in the left side of the screen and after few seconds shows "Page cannot be displayed". I am unable to download it. How do I get back to the default Save/Run dialogue. Have no idea what I might have done to cause this to begin with. OS Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Thanks |

What file types?
If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant: You may have an invalid plugin. Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer [Q303401] http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;303401 Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe Start-Run-Regedit.exe Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a normal safety precaution. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed. The key does not normally exist. If not only .exe files, try this: Blank Web Page with Placeholder Icon and You Cannot Save a File to Disk http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;316537 ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows -Internet Explorer On Mon, 12 Dec 2005 14:12:02 -0800, "Donaldo" <Donaldo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >When I click on a link to download a file... instead of getting the Save/Run >download dialog box, I instead get a small windows in the left side of the >screen and after few seconds shows "Page cannot be displayed". HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extensions\.exe, this key doesnot exist. I tried alternate download sources, 61.56.86.122, 152.104.238.194, 202.65.194.18 and I get the same problem. -- Don "Alan Edwards" wrote: > What file types? > > If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant: > You may have an invalid plugin. > Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer > [Q303401] > http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;303401 > > Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe > Start-Run-Regedit.exe > Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a > normal safety precaution. > > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet > Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe > > If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed. > The key does not normally exist. > > If not only .exe files, try this: > Blank Web Page with Placeholder Icon and You Cannot Save a File to > Disk > http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;316537 > > ....Alan > -- > Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows -Internet Explorer > > On Mon, 12 Dec 2005 14:12:02 -0800, "Donaldo" > <Donaldo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > >When I click on a link to download a file... instead of getting the Save/Run > >download dialog box, I instead get a small windows in the left side of the > >screen and after few seconds shows "Page cannot be displayed".
