I have WMP10 associated with file extension .asx/.asf in WinXP Pro SP2, no firewall is running. Doubleclicking a link to a streaming audio file in IE6 eg "http://www.rthk.org.hk/asx/rthk/news/summary/20051211/20051211_23.asx" WMP10 dose not start to play the audio, instead a dialog with Save/Cancel comes up. After saving the file to the HD WMP10 opens and plays the audio when doublclicking the saved file. This happens to both ..asx/.asf filetypes. This problem only happens in IE6. With other browser such as Mozilla WMP10 opens and plays the stream audio as expected. I think it is caused by some of the setting(s) in IE6, not WMP10. That is why i post my problem in this IE6 newsgroup. I reset all the settings in Security and Advanced tabs in Tools/Internet Options.. to default but no luck. I just want to play these streaming audio files without downloading and saving to my HD with IE6, please help, any suggestion will be welcome. Thank you!! -- ************************************************** ************************************************** **** Stephen Lo Vancouver, BC., CA. |

Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types, and then scroll down to
and select the ASF extension, click on the Advanced button (at the bottom of the window), uncheck (that is, no checkmark in the box next to) "Confirm open after download", then click OK. Do the same for the extension ASX, and then close Folder Options by clicking OK yet again. You may have to restart your computer.
