I am unable to download any files or make any changes in Internet Options. I
can make changes but they revert back to the prior setting. I can't even
reset web options on the PROGRAMS Tab.

I have read the postings here about Spybot and I may have used Spybot a
while ago and then uninstalled it. Bottom line is I can't download Spybot
again until I fix this problem.

Is there another way to fix this problem?

Ad-aware Pro, SpySweeper)?

Windows XP SP2. I'm using AOL Spyware software and McAfee - I believe that's
it.

Does disabling AOL Spyware and/or McAfee [VirusScan? Internet Security?]
make any difference in the behavior?

What happens when you try to download files? Any files? Does the behavior
persist if you use IE (instead of the AOL browser) to download?

I am currently out of town. I will try disabling everything when I return on
Wed. I did try downloading from IE And that didn't work either. Without
being at the computer I can only say I can download files sent via aol email.
However, if I try to download a pdf from a web site or software from a web
site, I am unable to do it. I get a msg that says the website is currently
unavailable or it just does nothing. I know the web sites are available
since I've had friends download pdfs from the site and send them to me.

I have other problems but do not know if they are related and are more of a
nuisance. In games on my computer where the high scores used to be
maintained they are no longer kept. Word and Excel do not maintain the last
files accessed. Some software (Adobe Acrobat for one) does not recognize
that a default printer has been named in the control panel.

I deactivated ActiveShield in McAfee and rebooted. The AOL Spyware isn't
active unless scheduled to run. I was still unable to download a pdf file
from the US Savings Bond site and this should not be a problem. It didn't
matter if I attempted to download in IE or AOL. The detailed msg I get is

"Internet Explorer cannot download "file name" from "web site".

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested
site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Help!

I delete Temp internet files almost daily. I don't have a shortcut for
Notepad or use Quick View Plus . For each file type, all of the boxes for
"confirm open after download" are checked. I'm not trying to "save target
as" or having the problem only with https url. Any other suggestions?
