My "related" sites option disappeared after I installed XP's SP2. I just
now started researching this issue to restore that option. I do know that the filename is "related.htm" and is stored in the C:\Windows\Web folder, however mine is missing completely. Check if yours is in that folder and let me know. I suppose it is understood that the AdAware program deletes or misplaces it. I will be back with more info... |

Try this response from Ramesh:
It's removed in XP SP2. To get back the functionality: Download: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/alexa.zip Unzip, place "related.htm" into your "\WINDOWS\Web" folder Right-click on "RestoreAlexa.reg", select: Merge, and reboot. -or- For Pre- XP SP2 systems, type regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll in Start,Run to get the extension back. If you're using Ad-aware, add the Related extension to exclusion list. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Sat, 24 Dec 2005 21:10:29 -0500, "McChick" <mickimet@nospam.comcast.net> wrote: >My "related" sites option disappeared after I installed XP's SP2. Alan-- you are awesome! It worked! Although... I ran that kelleys-korner
thing first, and what I ended up with was a restored "related" icon in my toolbar, but nothing happened when I clicked on it. My computer is running a bit strange now. I created a restore point before I messed with any of the tips, and I'm thinking maybe I should restore the system and then perform your suggestion over again. What do you think, Alan? Did I muck something up in the registry? |

Oh boy. It seems I get all excited then something goes wrong. Now when I
click on the "related" icon, I get the Alexa related links on the left as usual, but then the screen clicks again on its own and the whole window mirrors the related links column. If I go back a page in my browser, the previous window is restored and the related links remain intact on the left. Although it's really only one additional step to take, I fear there is something more serious going on. So I resubmit my previous query: Should I restore & redo? |

After the great wrap you gave me, I find it hard to say, but I must:
Please quote previous messages or nobody will know what you are referring to. As you don't mention your operating system, I am uncertain as to what a "restore point" will do. Win Me? Win XP? I would trust anything Kelly had on her site. (That is Kelly with two, if she is reading this) ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Sun, 25 Dec 2005 05:07:10 -0500, "McChick" <mickimet@nospam.comcast.net> wrote: >Alan-- you are awesome! Yes, things can go wrong when I get excited too, though that may be
irrelevant. Depending on your operating system, a restore and redo may help, though I am at a loss to understand why. Sorry, but I have never seen the need to use related links myself. Have you compared what you did with what I suggested? Is there any difference? ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Sun, 25 Dec 2005 05:18:54 -0500, "McChick" <mickimet@nospam.comcast.net> wrote: >Oh boy.
