I am trying to download free McAfee virus protection through AOL, but keep
being told that I need to set my activex scripting to 'enable' under the 'security' tab in my internet options (under 'tools' menu). I have done this several times; all the activex controls are set to 'enable' or 'prompt', but I keep getting windows that tell me to enable them. Anyone know how to solve this problem????? Thanks! --Debbie : ) |

Hi,
If your IE security settings (for ActiveX) are at Enable or Prompt, try disabling third-party security programs. It's possible that an AOL (or other) security program (firewall, spyware blocker, etc) is blocking the download. Try placing the download site in Trusted Sites (Internet Options> Security.) Uncheck "Require server verification" and enter the site as (for example) *.aol.com - - - - Also, a recent security update for Internet Explorer may be causing this. ActiveX controls may not load as expected in Internet Explorer due to defense in depth changes introduced in cumulative security update 896688 (MS05-052) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889 Try the fix at http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/kb896688_fix.zip (KB896688_fix.exe; a small VB app that checks the 4 values and offers a repair option if any of them are incorrect) - - - - Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "debbielindsey" <debbielindsey[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F810E4C0-BDD1-490F-A266-65BE67A892D9@microsoft.com... > I am trying to download free McAfee virus protection through AOL, but keep > being told that I need to set my activex scripting to 'enable' under the > 'security' tab in my internet options (under 'tools' menu).
