Default IE has encountered a problem

I started getting this message a month ago. I purchased spyware doctor today
and scanned. This has improved the number of times I get this message but has
not eliminated it. Details APPname Iexplore.exe, Appver 6.02900.2180,
modname unknown, offset is different each time.

Hi,
You need use additional malware removal tools. No program/tool detects and
removes everything.

Download, update and run Ad-aware, Spybot and (if running WinXP) MS
Anti-Spyware (Beta.)
See these sites for help:

Some malware must be removed manually. You may have to register and post a
HijackThis log to one of these forums for additional help. Look for the
proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow
proper procedure.

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, security,
toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at any
program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reinstall, or not
reinstall, a program. Before disabling a third-party firewall, turn on the
Windows Firewall (from Control Panel or Security Center.)

Hope this helps,
Don

Default RE: IE has encountered a problem

I've been getting these messages and crashes with annoying frequency. I've
downloaded every relevant update that I can find, to no avail. No spyware or
other malware problems. I'm running Win 98 SE; can't find an 'Event Viewer'.
I'm planning to get a new computer in the next 6 months, but what can I do in
the meantime? Pls advise.

Download a copy of Firefox - the problem is IE specific. I'm a
developer, in my case this problem was caused purely by invalid HTML
Markup - nothing to do with any external thing at all. Even then using
Firefox avoided it.

Thx, Jim -- worth the try. The problems increased after I updated Norton
Systemworks -- don't know if there's any relation.

This is usually caused by malware nadvertently installed on your computer.

Thanks, Frank . I check weekly using Norton, but it's possible there could be
something it has missed. I should have spybot and ad-aware anyway.
