Hi,
I have had this nagging problem with IE6 for several months now and I just can't seem to crack it. Maybe one of you knowledgeable chaps can help? The problem is regarding the Image Toolbar. As you will know, if you hover your mouse over the icons on the toolbar, you get some popup help text (tooltips?). My popup help text appears to be a mix of Asian, possibly Japanese, characters as well as English. I have uploaded an image here so you can see what I mean: http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/8...toolbar8ly.jpg I have been through the Regional & Language Settings in the Control Panel but Japanese is not installed. I have also tried turning off Advanced Text Services, but that hasn't helped. I have tried to search through the registry to see if the toolbar popup text is stored there so that I can change it, but it doesn't seem to be. Does anyone have any ideas? ![]() Many thanks in advance. |

Hi,
Check Internet Options> General> Languages, English [en-us] should be at the top. Remove languages you don't need. If running XP SP2, go to IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Try disabling non-microsoft add-ons. It's a longshot, but an add-on might be involved. If not using SP2, try BHO Demon from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3550.html Does this occur if you startup in Safe Mode with Networking? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 If not, another program (which doesn't load in Safe Mode) is causing this. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Squirrel" <squirrel[at]nospam.com> wrote in message news:EF3FEA71-EDF8-4C29-820F-AF53415510B4@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I have had this nagging problem with IE6 for several months now and I just > can't seem to crack it. Hi Don,
Many thanks for your reply. I had already tried the first two things you mentioned, but I had not tried rebooting in Safe Mode to see if the problem was still manifesting itself. So I tried this and, sure enough, the tooltips were all normal in Safe Mode! So I spent a couple of hours enabling/disabling startup items using msconfig and I found the program that is responsible for altering the image toolbar! It was the configuration software for my Logitech MX1000 mouse! C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint.exe I was running v 2.40 of SetPoint, so I uninstalled and then installed the latest version (v 2.47), but the problem is still apparent. If you exit from the SetPoint software, the problem goes. Soon as you load it up again, the problem reappears! Doesn't appear to be a recognised problem on Logitech's support pages, so I will email them to let them know of the problem - hopefully they can issue a fix in a future release. Many thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. It's been great to finally get to the bottom of this problem! Happy New Year! Hi,
I wouldn't have suspected mouse software, but I'm glad to have pointed you in that (troubleshooting) direction. Thanks for reporting back.
