Hi, I would like to know how to upgrade from Win98 to XP. Is it safe to do?
What are the things to look out for? A detailed step by step process would be mostly appreciated. Thanks. |

If your machine doesn't have at least 512 MB of memory, don't even think
about it. -- ------------------------------------------ Donny Broome http://www.broomeman.com/tech/ ------------------------------------------ "Pablo" <pchu@core.com> wrote in message news:OFIuURiDGHA.516@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Hi, I would like to know how to upgrade from Win98 to XP. I wouldn't do it on general principles. Either I would set up the HDD for a dual-boot system, keeping Window 98 on one boot partition, and using a fresh install of Windows XP on another boot partition. Set up Windows XP to use an NTFS partition. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Why not ask the question in an appropriate newsgroup (one of the XP groups for instance)? Logically, you could expect a much better quality of response. |

The first thing you need to do is determine if your hardware will work with
XP. In general, the CPU should be at least 1 GHz clock speed. You will need a minimum of 256 Megs of RAM memory (512 Megs would be better). You should have a minimum of 20 Gigabytes of Hard Drive. While the above requirements exceed the minimum listed for XP, without the capabilities listed you will find XP much slower and poorer performing than 98 on that computer. Next you should download and run the XP evaluation software. You may find that your sound card, modem, and maybe even your video card all need new driver software. You may also find that your scanner is not compatible and I know you will need new printer driver software. You may have other Software Programs incompatibilities. Fixing all of these may cost more than the price of a new computer that comes with XP. For the evaluation software go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/h...g/advisor.mspx "Pablo" <pchu@core.com> wrote in message news:OFIuURiDGHA.516@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Hi, I would like to know how to upgrade from Win98 to XP.
