Default unwanted popups

I've been using my daughter's computer while visiting her; she is using
IE6. She has three popup blockers installed: one built into McAfee
virus checker, one built into Google Toolbar and Popup Stopper.
Despite this, she gets numerous unwanted popup windows appearing. I
have tried using McAfee alone, but that didn't work -- also using a
combo of McAfee and Popup Stopper -- that didn't work either.

On my computer at home, running the same system (XP), I use Google
Toolbar and Popup Stopper, and never get unwanted popups. Any idea
what the problem could be here and how to solve it?

Thanks.

Hi,
There's no reason to run multiple pop-up blockers. I would choose one
(probably Google) and disable the others. Or, if [XP] SP2 is installed, the
pop-up blocker built into IE works very well.

If numerous pop-ups are making it past pop-up blockers, there's probably
malware installed on the machine.

Download, update and run Ad-aware, Spybot and (if running WinXP) MS
Anti-Spyware (Beta.)

We have run ad-aware and spybot -- the former found lots of spyware,
which we deleted. We've run it several times since. The latter didn't
find anything. Will try the MS Anti-spyware to see if that helps, and
will report back..

Thanks for your suggestions.

1. Restart in Safe Mode and run the scans there.

Running MS Anti-spyware found problems,. but didn't help with the
popups. I'm leaving here tomorrow (I live abroad), but my daughter
will follow up on your suggestions. (It's her computer that has the
problem.)

Thanks for your help.
