Hello,
I use the synchronization feature of windows to view offline webpages. It used to email me the pages when they changed, but now it does not. I have checked all the settings and they are correct. I use outlook express and ie 6 w/ XP service pack 2. Any ideas? |

You'll have to contact whatever is that service that is supposed to e-mail changes for the web pages that you have allowed them to track. Obviously how could Windows, Internet Explorer, Linux, Mac, or anything else possible ever determine a web page had changed until it navigates there? |

In IE it allows you to send mail to yourself when a webpage changes. You can
find it at tools>synchronize>properties>download tab. Since it is a Microsoft function built in to IE, I thought someone here with KNOWLEDGE of IE may have an answer. That means you have to schedule when to go look. Do you have any scheduling defined to go look? That means there must be a network connection and that you can reach the Internet? When the check is scheduled to run, is there a network connection? Is is a dial-up or broadband connection? If broadband, do you have your firewall, security software, or NIC configured to be disabled when the screen saver is active? Is the firewall configured to permit Internet access only at certain times? Do you have a firewall in a NAT router between your computer and your ISP, and does it have any scheduling of when to permit Internet access? Is you ISP up at that time (I had one a long time ago that had scheduled downtime on every Sunday starting at 3AM)? Did you check if the e-mail got sent? Do you have anti-spam filtering enabled anywhere? If so, and if it doesn't just delete the spam, have you checked the other folders to see if the suspected spam mail got moved out of your Inbox? Do you have your computer configured to go into Standby mode? Some NICs get disabled in Standby mode? Did you leave the computer on? Is the computer powered up when you scheduled to perform the web page check, or might it have gone into Hibernate mode? Yep, lots of interdependencies there. -- __________________________________________________ _____ ** Post replies to the newsgroup. Oh,by the way, you never did mention if it works if you run it manually.

Thanks for your reply. Yes it does run when I do it manually. I have a T3
connection that is always on. it runs the updates fine, it just does not send an email notification any longer. "Vanguard" wrote: > Oh,by the way, you never did mention if it works if you run it manually. > |

WOW! How much did that cost you? Doesn't look like you are talking about problems at home when using Internet Explorer. How are the settings configured for Synchronize? Is the checkbox enabled for the web page (so it is selected to get synchronized)? Click on the web page that you want to keep synchronized and click on Properties button. Is the option enabled for "Make this page available offline"? If that option is not enabled, the Download tab will not be available. Under the Schedule tab, are there any scheduled times to check the web page? For those scheduled events, is the option enabled for "If my computer is not connected .... connect for me"? If you have a broadband/LAN connection, you might not need this option. If you really have a DSL connection, did you check the PPPoE settings to make sure the keep-alive option is enabled? If not, you will lose your session. Under the Download tab, are the e-mail options configured correctly? Apparently there was a problem with IE SP-1; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821591/en-us. Have you applied the latest Windows Updates? |

I have checked the settings and they are correct. It took me a little time to
recognize that i was not receiving my notices. Yes i do have a T3, I use it in my work, from home, and I download extremely large databases with it. It is part of a collabrative effort in climate modeling that i am working on. Anyway, when this happened in IE 5, i had to enter my user password for each one to gain access to run the program in scheduling agent. That is no longer an issue in IE 6. i have these updates to occur at differing times and days, and since my computer is always on, there should be no problem there. Then I'd start focusing on the e-mail client specified as the default MAPI client. Could be those e-mails are not getting to the e-mail client. Presumably you are not seeing them stuck in the Outbox. Turn on logging in your default e-mail client to check if it even tries to send mail at one of the times scheduled for web synchronization. Do you have the Power Options configured to put your computer into Standby or Hibernate mode? If so, try disabling power savings for awhile to see if e-mail then works. The network interface probably gets disabled when in a power saving mode. Also, some security products, like firewalls, have an option to block any traffic when the screen saver activates. |
