I am having a wierd problem with MSN Toolbar for IE 6. Can you lend me some
assistance or can you point me in the right direction for help? I downloaded the Anti-phishing add-in from the Microsoft website and after the install everything was working well for at least a month. No problems were encountered doing the download. However, I am now having a problem in getting the anti-phishing icon to appear on the toolbar. I have tried removing and reinstalling the anti-phishing addin but that does not solve the problem. I have also tried to remove IE 6 then reinstall it using the CD, but the problem is still there. To add insult to injury, there are two users on this machine and there is no problem with the toolbar and the display of the anti-phishing icon on that user's IE toolbar. It only occurs on my IE toolbar. I have even tried using System Restore to restore to a time when it was working, but the problem persist. Is it possible that I may ahve removed some sort of file setting unknowingly. If so, how do it reinstall or rebuild such a file? What can I do to have the icon appear on my IE toolbar? Thank you for any assistance that you may render in helping me bring this matter to a working solution. It is such a useful little tool I hate to loose it. (I am referring to MSN Search Toolbar) Sincerely Yours; Percy Davis, Jr -- Mr. Percy Davis Jr |

Hi,
You may have a damaged registry key- the key which records IE toolbar layout. Go to http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#IEToolbars Download this REG file http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/IEToolbar.reg Right-click it and merge it into the registry. Restart.Then setup the IE toolbar again. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "HonoredWriter" <honoredwriter[at]dot.com> wrote in message news:22F7B984-13E8-48A3-82A1-C72024B26E63@microsoft.com... > I am having a wierd problem with MSN Toolbar for IE 6. Or, have you recently installed another toolbar? Conflicts can occur. Don [MS MVP- IE] |

Hello Don;
I just finished with that and it still doesn't show. Is there some key that I have to turn on before I can continue? Also I cannot seem to erase IE6 from my system. I tried the MSN thing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/.../.../IsInstalled by resetting this key.....but that doesn't seem to work either. If I could only somehow reinstall IE6 maybe, just maybe that will work. -- Mr. Percy Davis Jr "Don Varnau" wrote: > > "HonoredWriter" <honoredwriter[at]dot.com> wrote in message > news:E1B658D3-D64F-488E-92A9-30C2D418F8DF@microsoft.com... > > > > > > Mr. Percy Davis Jr > > > > > "HonoredWriter" wrote in message > > > news:22F7B984-13E8-48A3-82A1-C72024B26E63@microsoft.com... > > > > I am having a wierd problem with MSN Toolbar for IE 6. If you've installed SP2 as an update, you should uninstall SP2 before

Dear Don,
I thank you very much for the assistance that you provided me. Even though the solution eluded both us, I feel as though you were here beside me as we looked for a solution. My solution was to remove and reinstall Windows OS. Since I have two hard drives this was not a problem. The major fault unknown to me before is that there are TWO versions of the MSN Search Toolbar in existence. I keep copies of downloaded files in a special folder and I noticed the difference during all of the file transfers. You did ask the right questions and you were on track in your responses. No wonder you are MVP IE. Both versions cannot be on the same machine or conficts do occur. And they are contrary to one another. Thanks again for your efforts. I must now do the updating thing. See ya. -- Mr. Percy Davis Jr "Don Varnau" wrote: > If you've installed SP2 as an update, you should uninstall SP2 before > attempting the reinstall procedure in > http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 > > 875350 - How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 > http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;875350 > > You might also try creating a new user account. > 279783 - How To Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP: > http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=279783 > 811151 - How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile > [account]: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=811151 > > Hope this helps, > Don > [MS MVP- IE] > > "HonoredWriter" <honoredwriter[at]dot.com> wrote in message > news:E6EBEDA3-BF31-4559-B59F-BB6CB5B48C2F@microsoft.com... > > Hello Don; > > I just finished with that and it still doesn't show.
