Default Dial Up Connection

I use a 56k dialup modem to connect to the Internet on my Gateway Media
Center 2005 PC. I also use Outlook 2003 for email.

In Internet Explorer connection properties my dial up connection is setup to
"dial only if network connection is not present". I have a built in LAN
port, but it is not connected to anything at this time. I use a local ISP so
I setup my Internet connection manually.

When I click on Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet, a box comes up
that has save password checked and dial automatically unchecked. I then
click dial and it completes the connection. I would like it to dial
automatically, but on old computer I seemed to have trouble with my internet
connection staying connected as soon as I selected the automatically dial
option. Someone told me that it was because Internet Explorer was using its
dialer after I selected the auto dial option.

If I chose the auto dial option will it screw up my connection which is
working very well at this time? I don't understand why this would make a
difference?

It shouldn't do anything to your connection. I would change the properties
of your connection to the dial my default connection option. Your network
connection is not enabled since you have nothing connected via the LAN port
anyway.

Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure because Outlook is setup to connect thru
LAN port when I checked it's settings.
