Hello,
Thanks in advance for any and all help and advice. You guys are great! I'm working on a WinXP Home SP2 system with IE6 installed. Both are fully updated as of today. SBC Yahoo DSL's herd of software is installed as well. IE initially worked; indeed, I used it to update. However, after installing Norton Internet Security 2006, IE will not start. Watching Task Manager, iexplore.exe loads for a split second, but is then immediately terminated with no error message, visible window, no errors logged in Event Viewer, etc. SBC Yahoo's browser still works. I've uninstalled NIS and run Symantec's complete removal utility, both with no effect. I've attempted IE6 reinstall using it's .inf file and also by reinstalling SP2. No effect with either. I might mention, NIS 2005 was originally on the computer. NIS 2006 was installed over it and IE still worked. NIS 2006 was then uninstalled to address problems with LiveUpdate. IE initially failed after installing NIS 2006 the second time. Also, around this time OpenOffice.org 2.0 was installed, if anyone can see this as causing a problem. I have since removed it in a vain hope that it might help. It didn't. Thanks again, all. Michael |
