An URL has appeared in my address bar history that I did not type in to a
site I do not remember visiting. I was under the impression that Address Bar URLs had to be typed in. Is this true, and if not, how do I prevent unwanted URLs from being placed in my address bar list? |

It depends what you mean by "appears in the address bar list"
If it only appears as one of the 25 (maximum) choices when you hit the down pointer on the right hand side of the address box, then it is a TypedUrl and is normally typed in (though it is not impossible to get it there in other ways) If it is not a TypedUrl and it only appears as part of an AutoComplete suggestion when you start typing, then it doesn't have to have been typed in. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Thu, 5 Jan 2006 08:42:04 -0800, "sasinscott" <sasinscott@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >An URL has appeared in my address bar history that I did not type in to a >site I do not remember visiting. It is a complete address, but it definitely wasn't typed in. It is to a less
than reputable site that I have never intentionally visited, though here is a chance I may have been sent there involuntarily from another web site. Regardless, you say it is possible for this address to have been placed in my list of 25 without my having typed it, right? Thanks for your help. All addresses are complete, so you really haven't told me if it is a
TypedUrl or Autocomplete item. Which is it? Is it one of the 25 TypedUrls or not? I don't know how a TypedUrl could be inserted without your being aware, but there is probably a way. I can insert one with a .reg file or .inf file or .vbs script or similar but unless you have very low security, you should be aware of that happening. If it is an Autocomplete item, then you have probably been to the site. Have a look in your History. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Thu, 5 Jan 2006 11:39:23 -0800, "sasinscott" <sasinscott@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >It is a complete address, but it definitely wasn't typed in.
