Yes, the send HTML message box is checked. I called the ISP to see if it
could be anything at their end -- they claim is itsn't. Thx for the google
search on my behalf -- checked out some of the sites on the first page but no
new clues so far.

Any other ideas out there.

I have had this issue with pics sent from a relative who is using
AOL.....don't know what that might have to do with it, but, her pics often
come through with the 'red x', no pic. Don't have this issue with anyone
else...figure the problem is at her end, since my mother's machine gets the
same thing.

Thanks for continued ideas. The senders do not use AOL.

What email program do they use?
Are their messages plain text or HTML?
Can you save the image?
Can you open it after saving it?

Haven't been able to verify what e-mail programs are used -- probably MS
Outlook if that's what you mean. The messages are HTML. I can save and open
the document, but it still displays as placeholder with red X.

One additional point. There are two users that come to mind who've sent me
JPEG files I have this problem with. But these same users have sent me JPEG
files that I've been able to open. There doesn't seem to be a clear
demarcation point where the problem starts so it doesn't seem to be a
function of some software update or additional software added to my system.

Thx, C in Phoenix

If you look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3), the X-Mailer header will
identify the sender's mail program.

Also you can see in the message source whether the sender included the
image with the message (there is an encoded JPG attachment) or just a
link to the image. For some additional information, see:

If the mail was sent from Outlook using Outlook's RTF format then Outlook
Express will never find the attachment. Outlook Express does not understand
Outlook's RTF format. Ask the Outlook user to please use Plain Text,
especially when sending attachments.
